On The Road ...again

I'm in Ely, Nevada staying for $35 a nite at the White Pines Motel down the road from the Hotel Nevada and Gambling Hall. It's 12:45 am and I just heard the blast of four more shotgun or rifles and some animal is getting killed. I've been here 3 days shooting the Pony Express and Stephanie, accompanied by her boyfriend Patrick.
I had been in Austin, Nevada shooting Barbara and Ali at dawn transferring the mail bag from one saddle to another 14 miles from any town  at dawn.

I had met Jessi working behind the counter at the gas station convenient store. She was 18 and had turquoise streaks in her hair and freckles on her face.
I shot her accompanied by Cameron whom I shot the nite before while he worked at the local diner.
When we met at the International hotel we were served breakfast by the waitress I had shot the day before. I was in a one horse town and within two days I knew the main players.

I got back on highway 50 (In July 1986 Life magazine called it the "loneliest road in America") and arrived in Ely and met Stephanie who worked at the Evergreen soda counter, had turquoise streaks in her hair and freckles across her face and along her shoulders. She turns 18 in two days!

This road is lonely just the way I like it.

Naim Amor

I've lived him since we gagged together years ago in Amy Rude's kitchen while Amy sat in her livingroom and played her piano and Vicki played her violin and others joined the jam music should b heard.
He's the father of curly haired Laurant and lives with Crystal, the boy's mother, and the daughter of Bonnie.  He brought over his new boy toy.

When Gail went away (to Germany) I began to play (in her backyard)

When I shot Brenna and Russ' wedding I noticed the women. strong with desert in their expression and color in their clothes. Over wedding nite supper Sophie sat down and I told her I had use of thishouse in the Sam Hughes district so people wouldn't have to travel 45 minutes to get to where I live I told her I wanted to shoot her as she was - not naked, not with me directing but rather me trying to capture the person she was. She thought a photo session was a good idea since she was moving to a little town north of San Francisco after living in Tucson and raising children for over 13 yrs! I had seen her dance flamenco on stage at Congress and was attracted to her spirit. A friend noticed my interest and claimed she'd never pose. Four years later, as the west light was fading (as I knew it would) we shot. The golden late afternoon lite and the Sauza tequila brought out her smile and the rest was dance.

I shot entirely with film using Gail's borrowed Nikon with a busted lens that won't go past f 11 and a Rollei and Hasslebad that act like neglected lovers or. at least, I had to relearn each body's

Sophie did in fact move away but maybe I'll see her in a few days. I'm in Denny's in Kettleman City, Ca off Interstate 5 on my way to Helena and Laurant's wedding in Bernal Heights (San Francisco) tomorrow.

more 2 follow of Nadine, Dia, Bob, Jim, and Naim not to mention Jennifer and Jim Nitzel
