I met Carlos Batts when he and Dave Naz came up to San Francisco where I was living in the late '90's. I interviewed the two of them. When I moved to LA in 2006 Steve Diet Goedde, Dave Naz, Carlos Batts and me hung out often.  Looking for photos of Carlos I found these of Steve and Dave and I eating late one nite in Chinatown after an opening.  Tom Waits for no one..

Never Had A Better Friend Than Carlos Batts

Carlos died just ahead of Lou Reed and left a massive whole in my heart. Lillian, his wife, I will see again and again and smile again with and lunch again and club with again and I have room enough for the joy memories Carlos laid on me or rather we shared together. People talk (correctly) about endangered species...well we lost one. Love you Lillian

People might wonder what I do in the Ventana foothills

I am trying to understand and preserve a vast collection of girlie material from the 1960's to the present (my own work). Below are deteriorating 4x5 black and white negatives of Jackie Miller (curly haired) and Pauline that were shot in the early 1960's -perhaps by Lenny Burtman (publisher of Exotique magazine) or Sam Menning (bf for awhile to Bettie Page in NYC). I bought them from a phone call in the mid ninties from Whitney Ward, photographer and wife of artist, Joe Coleman. She warned me that the Chelsea Comic store in the Chelsea hotel had some rare material in its basement that the fire department was going to condemn. I went immediately from my studio on 28th st and Park Avenue to 23rd and 8th avenue to the flooded basement and saw that the scattered material was Mishkin mafia softcore porn and bought it ALL. Twenty years later, I am having these scanned and another million items catalogued and some scanned.
These images are similar to what Irving Klaw was doing at the same time across town in a corner building on 14th and second avenue (or third) but he was so paranoid about censorship that he would have his wrestling models (often Betty Page) wear two pairs of panties. Jackie is wearing only one. She is in Dian Hanson'd (TASCHEN) Big Book of Breasts. She has a following.
I like my work. The rewards are not in money but in priceless knowledge.

the Circus is in town

Fall season in Tucson is crazy busy and I like it. Last night Brett's Bug Burlesque (October 10th) at the Puppets Amongus Playhouse 657 W. Saint Mary's. " Bugs, bugs, and more  bugs!! This all ages event celebrates the creepy crawlies, the indispensable insects and the acrobatic arachids! A fantastic flea circus, a sadistic scorpion handler, and beautiful girls aplenty. Singing, dancing, magic, and poetry, all in honor of the lowly bug, and all under one roof! Come one, come all! If you are afraid of bugs this might be just what you need, but if you love 'm then we need YOU there!
Dr. (something) Steve wore bugs

then kept amping the pain. a mouse trap on one hand, a metal trap on his other and a rat trap on his TONGUE. Boy ...does he know how to have fun!

But the flea experience started with Brett and here he is with his son shooting off a flea into his MOUTH! brilliant. fearless.

But I was there for Brenna Bean, a truly poor fine artist performer. I have never seen anything that she does that doesn't involve beauty and humor. She needs and would do incredible things with the Buffalo Exchange Contribution to the Arts Award, a $10,000 cash award given yearly to a local artist. Unfortunately one can't apply.  Kersten Block and others involved in the selection process are probably unaware of such a fringe artist. Below is her
"The Butterfly".

but the scariest creature was a black bat named Anastacia.

Al Foul...tough enough

First the Paladins and now AL FOUL. Damn the best show possible. Nadine (whom I miss terribly now that she is on the road to fame and hip hop)

did a video for Pork Torta

 and Lucas Moseley

, the drummer,

had a party for it's premiere showing at the factory he lives in with Summer. After Pork Torta played (Serge (Danny Walker)

and Ian McDaniel)

Al Foul.

I had this roadhouse legend reaction to him b4 he starting to slam his guitar into beautiufl music accompanied by my friend Naim Amor.

(ps Lucas and Danny were the first two new people I met after moving to Tucson permanently. They unloaded me. I met them through Danny Vinik and Naim I met early on introduced by Carl Hanni. Basically, I was in a room filled with old friends)

The gril next to me. I asked her how she knew of Al and she said he played her 6th birthday party!

after I was hanging around the rat roulette table outside and Al was there having a cigarette and I asked him to pose for a photo.

A month later Carl Hanni told me a bit about the history of Foul. He used to play around here alot but he's popular in Europe and goes over there. I heard he has a fab vintage car- the "tequila taxi" but I never seen it. I bet him and Robert Williams, the painter, and Coop, the artist, would get along well.
